October 2024 to early 2025
The Lotus Creek Wind Farm is a 46-turbine project that will have a maximum capacity of 285 MW once constructed, generating enough clean renewable energy to power around 150,000 Queensland homes each year.
From October 2024, the Lotus Creek Wind Farm will start road upgrades, accommodation camp construction and site establishment to prepare for major construction early next year.
Road and intersection upgrades, St Lawrence Croydon Road
To facilitate safe access for both public vehicles and construction traffic, sections of St Lawrence Croydon Road that lead to the Lotus Creek Wind Farm site will be upgraded. The work will be undertaken in stages to maintain traffic access and will involve:
- Widening and regrading 18km of St Lawrence Croydon Road from Marlborough Sarina Road to the northern access to the wind farm (shown in yellow on the map above). This is required to facilitate the oversized vehicles required to deliver turbine components
- Adding a turning lane at the intersection of St Lawrence Croydon Road and Marlborough Sarina Road (shown in pale blue on the map)
- Constructing new and upgrading existing site access points along St Lawrence Croydon Road
- Upgrading Main Creek Bridge by installing a new bridge and then removing the old bridge. Road access across the creek will be maintained throughout
- Installing signage and road markers
- Ongoing maintenance of the road and intersections during construction of the project.
What to expect
- Sections of St Lawrence Croydon Road and Marlborough Sarina Road will be under traffic control while upgrades are undertaken. This may result in minor delays which the project will endeavour to minimise
- Traffic controllers and signage will be in place to direct traffic around work areas.
Accommodation camp
A temporary accommodation camp will be constructed to house workers during construction of the wind farm. The camp will be located at the southern end of the project area and is required to ensure that local services and accommodation are not significantly impacted by the influx of workers during peak construction.
Construction of the camp will involve:
- Earthworks, asphalting and concreting to create the camp footprint (or ‘bench’) and access tracks. The camp is located in an area that has been used for grazing, to minimise vegetation removal
- Delivery and installation of prefabricated buildings.
Site establishment
The project team will also commence site establishment activities before the end of the year:
- Undertaking survey and monitoring activities
- Clearing of vegetation and establishment of access tracks. A qualified wildlife spotter will be on site to inspect vegetation before removal occurs. More information about how wildlife is managed on site is available on the FAQ page of the project website
- Construction compound preparation including earthworks, asphalting and concreting to construct the compound bench, and the delivery of installation of site facilities
- Translocation of protected plant species
- Cultural Heritage survey and protection activities (ongoing in parallel with other activities).
Contact us
In the lead up to construction, we’ll hold pop-up information sessions in the local area to answer your questions about the project and its benefits. Details of these events will be shared via our mailing list and website.
